                                             Week of 1/29/24-2/2/24

Math:  This week scholars will continue to learn how to evaluate expression and also create expressions from word problems.

Science: Scholars will learn about the life cycles of various organisms and how they interact within their ecosystems. They will have a quiz on Friday.

Literature: Scholars will finish our read of The Phantom Tollbooth and participate in a seminar discussion of the book. They will have a quiz on Wednesday.

Grammar/Writing: Scholars will be introduced to a new story used to work on active and passive voice, as well as summarizing with the 5W’s. They will have a preposition quiz on Tuesday.

History: Scholars will continue will begin their study of the United States westward expansion. They will learn about Lewis and Clark and Manifest Destiny.

- Animal Presentation Permission slips due no later than 1/26/24. If your scholar does not turn in a permission slip, they will not be allowed to participate. Please email your scholar's lead teacher for any questions.

- Please help us in reminding scholars to visit the Lost & Found in case they are missing anything such as water bottles, winter coats and sweaters. Lunch times, recess, and dismissal are great opportunities for scholars to visit the Lost & Found.

                                               Week of 1/22/24-1/26/24

Math:  This week scholars will review the steps in solving order of operations and understanding algebraic expressions.

Science: Scholars will learn about the flow of energy in food chains. A quiz will be taken on vocabulary words.

Literature: Scholars will continue our read of The Phantom Tollbooth and identify different types of figurative language throughout the story. Additionally, they will be reviewing Shakespeare's Sonnet 29. Scholars who are ready to recite their poem may do so beginning on 1/24.

Grammar/Writing: This week students will be focusing on creative writing. They will discuss protagonist, antagonist and conflict.

History: Scholars will continue will take a look at some artistic expressions that were unique to Japan during this time in history. Then, they will learn about the Mongol invasion. Scholars will have a test on Thursday.

Math:  This week scholars will review dividing whole numbers by a fraction using the pillar method. Scholars will be tested over what they have learned on Friday.

Science: Scholars will learn about producers and consumers and how they interact in the earth's ecosystems.

Literature: Scholars will continue our read of The Phantom Tollbooth and identify different types of figurative language throughout the story. Additionally, they will be reviewing Shakespeare's Sonnet 29.

Grammar/Writing: This week students will continue their study of sensory linking verbs and take a quiz over 15 prepositions.

History: Scholars will present what they learned about the Russian rulers to their classmates. Then we will begin move on to learn about Japan's feudal system.

 Week of 1/8/24 - 1/12/24

Welcome back!

Math:  This week scholars will review strategies used for multiplying fractions.

Science: Scholars will begin studying energy and matter in our ecosystems.

Literature: Scholars will continue our read of The Phantom Tollbooth and identify different types of figurative language throughout the story. Scholars will also receive their poem "Sonnet 29" by William Shakespeare.

Grammar/Writing: This week students will be introduced to sensory linking verbs. They will practice using and identifying them in sentences.

History: Scholars will begin the week by presenting their Independent Study Projects. Then, we will begin our study of Feudal Japan and the Russian Czars.
