                                                 Week of 4/29/24-5/3/24

Math: This week scholars will review and manage a budget spreadsheet. Scholars will review over area and learn to find the area of triangles, and parallelograms.

Science: Students will be learning about the skeletal systems and different types of cell.

Literature: Scholars will continue our read of Across Five Aprils and work on writing a letter from the POV of one of the characters.

Grammar/Writing: Scholars will learn what a relative clause is and how to properly use it in a sentence.

History: Scholars will study the ways of life and the geography of the Great Plains. Scholars will also learn how the notions of the West changed over time.

Math: This week scholars will review fractions and decimals.

Science: Students will be learning about the skeletal systems and different types of cell.

Literature: Scholars will continue our reading of Across Five Aprils. 

Grammar/Writing: Scholars will work on a multi-paragraph persuasive essay.

History: In History this week scholars will be starting a new study of Westward Expansion After the Civil War. We will discuss the benefits and damages of using natural resources for economic advancement.

                                               Week of 4/15/24-4/19/24

Math: This week scholars will continue to learn about different types of graphs including plot graphs, bar graphs, stem and leaf plots, and scatter plots. Scholars will also be introduced to financial literacy.

Science: Scholars will start their lessons about life science. They will be introduced to the different types of cells and find out what their functions are.

Literature: Scholars will continue our reading of Across Five Aprils. 

Grammar/Writing: Scholars will work on a multi-paragraph persuasive essay and finish our unit on Interrogative Pronouns.

History: Scholars will be reviewing what they have learned about the Civil War in preparation of their upcoming test on Thursday. Additionally, scholars will complete a timeline of the events of the Civil War.

Math: This week scholars will continue to convert metric units of length, capacity, and weight. Scholars will also learn about different types of graphs including plot graphs, bar graphs, stem and leaf plots, and scatter plots.

Science: Scholars will review the solar eclipse safety and protocol on Monday. They will also review the rotation of the earth.

Literature: Scholars will continue reading Across Five Aprils. Please note that we ask that all scholars have a personal copy to ensure that they are making the necessary annotations. 

 Scholars will begin reciting their poem, The Builders by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow on 4/15. 

Grammar/Writing: Scholars will learn what an interrogative pronoun is and how to properly identify and diagram in sentences.

History: Scholars will learn about society after the Civil War ended. They will receive a Civil War Study Guide this week and have a test on 4/17.

Literature: Scholars will be starting our newest classic to keep, Across Five Aprils, and discussing the influences the Civil War had at that time. Poem: The Builders by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow due 4/15.
